Funniest Person in London Contest - Final

We've scoured the city for the best of the funny and the 13 finalists will strut their stuff this week! Join us at Downtown Cathy Brown's Wednesday October 27th, 7pm to see what's funny (and probably what's not). The evening is hosted by last year's winner Ian Tyson with appearances by comics Nic Bayley and Gilson Lubin. Join celebrity judges for a night of comedy as they crown the master of mirth from the forest city – who says Londoner’s aren’t funny!? Sponsored by Mainstreet.

 
Sketch Troupe Finals

Thursday October 28th, London Convention Centre, 7:30 pm.
Tickets: $20.00, available from Centennial Hall box office (approximately 1.5 hours).

This event features the best sketch troops in the country. Over 20 troops were nominated and these are the best of the best. Each troop has 20 minutes to strut their stuff and show the audience why Canadian sketch troops are more lethal than our army.

Newcomer Stand-Up Finals

Thursday October 28th, Yuk Yuks London, 7:30 pm.
Tickets $20.00, available through Yuk Yuks London (approximately 1.5 hours).

20 full time comedy clubs submitted their top five suggestions. A committee represented by officials from Yuk Yuks, Just For Laughs and The Canadian Comedy Foundation for Excellence reviewed the best of the best to choose the final five. Come and see these rising young performers. Special guest is last year’s winner Gilson Lubin.
The 2004 nominees: TREVOR BORIS, TERRY CLEMENT, TOMMY CAMPBELL, BRIAN LAZANIK AND RON SPARKS.

 
Female Stand-Up Finals

Thursday October 28th, Yuk Yuks London, 9:00 pm.

This night showcases some breakthrough performers who are carving out a wide variety of careers in stage, film and television. Last year’s winner who was recently the hit of Just for Laughs, Nikki Payne will help keep the energy sizzling all night long.

Improv Troupe Finals

The best improvisers in the country are assembled in one place at one time to provide what may be the highlight of the festival. Hosted by star of stage and screen Sean Cullen.

 
Male Stand-Up Finals

The best male comics available will meet for one night at Yuk Yuks and the line up includes 2004 nominees Derek Edwards, Mike Wilmot and Alex Nassbaum plus Canada’s veteran king of comedy Mike MacDonald and last year’s male stand-up winner Winston Spear.

 
Canadian Comedy Awards Roast

Friday October 29th, London Convention Centre, 10:00 pm after the main shows.
Tickets: $35.00, available through Centennial Hall box office.

Ever wondered what a bunch of comedians would do to an awards show? Join host Scott Thompson (Kids in the Hall, Larry Sanders Show), head table guests Sean Cullen, Mike MacDonald and the craziest of the entertainment industry as awards for television, film and live comedy are handed out. Past winners include Colin Mochrie, Mike Myers, Rick Mercer and Catherine O’Hara. The Awards presentation is funny, brisk & followed by loud music, karaoke and bedlam. Ticket includes good munchies and multiple cash bars are available. Let the party begin!

 
THE SECRETS OF STAND-UP COMEDY

Larry Horowitz, veteran stand-up comic and program coordinator at Humber College School of Comedy hosts a workshop that will set your sights on the road to comic genius, either for on the stage or in the boardroom. Limited spaces – book early.

 
Tim Long The Simpsons® Lecture

Join the co-executive producer of The Simpson’s as he takes you behind the scenes of the funniest show in television history. Tim has won several Emmy’s and the Canadian Comedy Award for his work on The Simpson’s and Late Night with David Letterman. He’s engaging, successful and grew up in Exeter. Go figure.

 
The Jokers versus the London Knights

New this year, a hilarious mixture of comedy and hockey as guest play-by-play announcers, coaches and musicians support 2 teams of comics, Knights alumni and visiting celebrities. Hockey, comedy and mayhem for a great cause as all profits go to the Shriner’s. Players include Scott Thompson, Sean Cullen, Tyler Stewart of Bare Naked Ladies and special guests Doug Gilmour & Rick Vaive!

 
Comedy Script Writing Workshop

Saturday October 30th, Delta Hotel, 2:00 pm.

Lorne Frohman started his career working with John Candy and Eugene Levy, has produced television specials with Robin Williams, Jay Leno, Dame Edna and won several Emmy Awards along the way. He’s interrupting a busy film schedule to present this workshop for comics & would be comics on how to craft a winning script for stage, screen or just pure fun.

 
All-Star Canadian Comedy Revue

Saturday October 30th, Centennial Hall, 8:00pm.

Cabaret style set up with tables of 10 to purchase pizza & refreshments during show.
Hosted by Royal Canadian Air Farce this is the premier comedy event in Canada this year – no kidding! Performances by the newly crowned live performers – the best Canada has to offer, supported by all-star veterans like Mike MacDonald, Jessica Holmes and Sean Cullen. Funny Flicks: Feature Comedy “Expecting” and Canadian Comedy Shorts

Canadian Comedy Shorts favorites from the 2003 & 2004 World of Comedy International Film Festival: Toys, The Dim Reaper, Rakes and Little Holland followed by the hilarious feature Expecting, a multi-category nominee in this year’s Canadian Comedy Awards. Featuring a superb ensemble cast: Colin Mochrie, Debra McGrath, Barbara Radecki, Tom Melissis, Valerie Buhagiar, Karl Pruner, Angie Gei and Derwin Jordan and directed by Debra Day.

 

The Dim Reaper: A non-stop comedy that follows the misadventures of a young Grim Reaper who decides to be nice to his ‘customers’ – boy does he learn! Director/Producer/Writer James Gawthroupe.
Rakes: Hard-hitting journalism tackles the dangerous world of garden implements – with hilarious results. Director/Producer/Writer David Manning.
Toys: (animated) A story about a girl and rabbits.
Little Holland: A travelogue mockumentary about the bizarre section of town where “Toronto’s Dutch come out to play”. Dutch-Canadian heritage is lampooned with giant tulip jousting, stiletto clogs and more. Director/Producer Brian Smith.

 

Feature Presentation: The hilarious feature Expecting (PG14), is a multi-category nominee in this year’s Canadian Comedy Awards. Featuring a superb ensemble cast: Colin Mochrie, Debra McGrath, Barbara Radecki, Tom Melissis, Valerie Buhagiar, Karl Pruner, Angie Gei and Derwin Jordan and directed by Debra Day. Expecting is a 24-hour “labour party” for eight diverse people gathering to witness and participate in a homebirth. Tensions run high as midnight cravings, stalled labour and expectations abound. Expecting is about birth, rebirth, and all the contractions in between.

 

Members of the Expecting cast, including some of the CCA nominees, will be in attendance to participate in a Q & A after the screening.
